National TB Nurse Coalition: NTNC
The National TB Nurse Coalition (NTNC) is a section of NTCA. We welcome nurses, social workers, and educators working in the TB field. Joining NTNC and getting involved in our activities is a great way to meet other professionals in the TB field, learn more about TB, share your expertise, and make a positive contribution toward public health.
NTNC’s Purpose, Mission, and Objectives
The purpose of the NTNC is to support TB nursing practice, advance policies, and implement interventions that support the elimination of TB in the United States and its territories.
NTNC’s mission is to work in partnership with federal, state, local, tribal, and territorial public health officials and others interested or involved in TB elimination to provide expert guidance for initiatives involving TB nursing practice.
NTNC’s objectives are to:
- Provide a platform for TB nurses to advance and advocate for positions, policies, and laws that support the mission of TB elimination.
- Support the development and implementation of education and training standards to ensure a common body of knowledge applicable to the specialized practice of public health TB nursing.
- Offer guidance and recommendations to:
- Define roles and functions of public health TB nurses
- Maintain and update clinical guidelines for TB public health practice
- Identify gaps in service delivery and develop strategies to address identified problems, and promote access to care
- Identify areas where public health TB programs can integrate or collaborate to maximize resources, including nursing expertise
- Facilitate communication between the NTNC and the NTCA, including its other two sections: National Society of TB Clinicians (NSTC), and Society for Epidemiology in Tuberculosis Control (SETC).
- Actively engage survivors of TB to provide input into NTNC activities.
NTNC Bylaws
The current version of the NTNC Bylaws reflects revisions and updates voted on by our membership in January 2022. Elizabeth Foy, TB and Hansen’s Disease Nurse Administrator for Texas, chaired the Bylaws Committee and provided leadership during this revision process.
Our thanks go out to Elizabeth and the workgroup for a great job of making the bylaws more user friendly and for clarifying and defining the many functions and committees of the NTNC.
